William (Bill) David Birchmore
November 15, 1932 - February 26, 2022
William (Bill) David Birchmore of Suwanee, Georgia died peacefully on Saturday, February 26, 2022. He was born on November 15, 1932 to Esau Shelton Birchmore and Geneva Estelle Birchmore of Columbia, South Carolina. Bill was one of 13 children in his family. He graduated from Olympia High School in 1952. He entered the Air Force and served in Korea, Vietnam, Germany, and various states serving as Master Sergeant before retiring after 20 years. Bill and his wife Sue treasured their time, memories, and friendships made while he served in the Air Force. Bill went to work for Southern Airlines as an A&P Mechanic, after retiring from the Air Force. He stayed with Southern then Republic and eventually Northwest Airlines, where he retired after a successful career of 29 years.
Bill will always be remembered as a devoted Christian husband, father, grandfather, co-worker, neighbor, friend, and deacon. His gentle spirit and giving nature was loved by all who knew him. Many times he was soft spoken, but what would be said was very profound and wise. Bill loved the Braves, and watching any ball games. He loved tinkering with clocks, and loved to read the newspaper. He and his wife, Sue were always devoted members of the Snellville Church of Christ, working hard to help others and keeping up with the activities of the “Young at Heart” Class.
He was married to the love of his life, Oma Sue Birchmore for 67 years. They had two sons, Michael David Birchmore (Jodie) and Jeffrey Mark Birchmore (Stephanie). He is also survived by four grandchildren Michael David Birchmore, Jr., Anna Caroline Birchmore Morris (Charlie), William Jeffrey Birchmore, and Bryant Thomas Birchmore. He is survived by Mary Ellen Birchmore Baggott, Donald Clyde Birchmore (Gracie), Sylvia June Barr Thompson, James Harrell Barr (Mary), Joanne Barr Leggett (Paul), Florence Carolyn Barr Loyd, and Judy Calala Barr Holcomb (Tom). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service is planned for Friday, July 1, 2022 at Snellville Church of Christ, 3025 Lenora Church Road, Snellville, Georgia 30078. Visitation from 9:00- 10:00 and Celebration of Life from 10:00-11:00. Internment 3:00 p.m. Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia 30114. In lieu of flowers a memorial can be made to the Snellville Church of Christ, 3025 Lenora Church Road, Snellville, GA 30078.
