Dedicated to Friends, Past and Present
Vickie went to her eternal rest on January 28th, 2024, at the age of 75. She was born May 16, 1948, in Amory, Mississippi. At the time of her passing she was living in Barnesville, Georgia.
Vickie was preceded in death by parents James O. Warren and Dorothy J. Rye Warren, and second husband Dave Burt. She is survived by brother Jimmie Warren; daughter Vanessa King; son Donald King Junior; two grandchildren Josh and Jake, and one great granddaughter.
After Vickie was born in Mississippi her parents spent a short time in Memphis Tennessee before moving north to Kenosha Wisconsin. There Vickie spent her early years in school attending grades 1-8. Her parents then moved to Zion Illinois where she attended Zion Benton Township High, graduating in 1966. Upon finishing high school Vickie attended the University of Illinois for 3 years majoring in business. Upon leaving college Vickie took a job with Southern Airways as a Flight Attendant where she enjoyed the travel and seeing much of the country. Her last home base where she flew out of was Fort Walton Beach, Florida. There she was able to take advantage of her love of the beach. It was at that location that she met her first husband Donal King Senior. He was in the Air Force at the time and shortly after they married in 1976, they moved to Don’s new duty station in Germany where they spent 4 years. Upon her husband Don being reassigned they moved to San Antonio in 1979. Vickie and Don divorced in 1984 and Vickie took an opportunity to be the Office Manager for a large insurance firm in Denver Colorado. So, she and her children moved to Denver.
Later Vickie found an opportunity to move closer to her mother Dorothy living in Georgia. She took a job as an Office Business Manager for Pep Boys regional distribution and she and the kids jumped at the chance to be closer to family. It was shortly after their move back to Georgia when she met her second husband Dave Burt whose family owned a large Logging Business and cattle farm. Dave recognized Vickie’s business acumen and his family asked Vickie to become their Business Manager. So, Vickie, Dave and her kids moved to Barnesville, GA. Vickie continued to manage the family’s logging business until her retirement at age 70. Vickie spent her remaining years helping tend the cows, bulls, donkeys and their dogs on the cattle farm which she loved.
Vickie was a Christian and a member of the Living Waters Church in Griffin, GA. A memorial will be held at a later date. Vickie will be buried at the Sulligent City Cemetery in Sulligent, AL, next to her mother Dorothy during a private graveside ceremony to be announced later. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to a local animal shelter of your choosing.
