Obituary

Lamon Gramling Pruitt, also known as Jack, passed away on May 22, 2016 at the age of 82. He was a native of Centre, AL and long-time resident of Smyrna, GA. 

Mr. Pruitt was married to the late Jeanette McElwee Pruitt for 43 years and is survived by one daughter, Donna Pruitt Snead, son-in-law Charles Snead, one grandson Brian Snead, and one great-grandson. In addition, he is survived by his beloved companion Betty Love, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Pruitt retired from Northwest Airlines after 34 years as an aircraft mechanic. He also served 26 years in the Navy, including 2 years aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1978. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, the Greater Atlanta Ostomy Association, Smyrna American Legion Post 160, and the Nelms Masonic Lodge #323. In addition, Mr. Pruitt was an active volunteer with WellStar Cobb Hospital for more than 20 years and also a member of Smyrna First Baptist Church. Mr. Pruitt loved his family and friends and enjoyed helping others. His positive attitude, joyful smile, ability to tell a story, and his steadfast loyalty to those he loved will be sorely missed. Services will be held at Carmichael Funeral Home, 2950 King Street, Smyrna, GA at 1 PM on Wednesday, May 25 with Dr. Jeff Pennington, Rev. Phil Miller, and Chaplain Raymond Coffman officiating. Burial will follow in the Veterans section of Georgia Memorial Cemetery in Smyrna. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM on Tuesday and from 11 AM until service time on Wednesday.
