Obituary

John Dunbar, age 86 of Cleveland, departed this life on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Erlanger Medical Center. Born in Bradley County to the late Roy and Margaret Cordell, he spent the majority of his life in Atlanta before moving back to Cleveland in 2001. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and was retired from Northwest Airlines where he served as President of the AMFA Union. John was an avid Civil War Reenactor and loved fishing, spending time with his friends the DAV and spending time with his family. He was responsible for some of the carvings at Coolidge Park and was a world traveler visiting King Tut’s tomb and the Great Wall of China among other famous places. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Frazier; and brother, Tony Cordell. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Rita James Dunbar; daughters, Frankie Dunbar and Roxanna Dunbar; grandson, John Gober(Kristin); great-grandson, Camdyn Gober; niece, Elaine Bruns(Dan); furbaby, Claire; as well as several extended family and a host of friends. A Celebration of Life and Home going for John Summerfield Dunbar will be held at11AM Monday, December 6, 2021 from the Cleveland Chapel of Companion Funeral Home with Pastor Guinn Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga with Military honors concluding the service. The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7p.m. on Sunday, December 5,2021 at the funeral home.
