Joe Elbert Byers, Jr., 77, of Fayetteville, Georgia, passed away December 18, 2021. He was born on January 29, 1944, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Joe Elbert Byers, Sr., and Virginia Elliott Byers.

Joe was a graduate of the Georgia Military Academy in 1962. During his junior year, Joe marched with his saxophone down Pennsylvania Avenue as the Georgia Military Academy Marching Band performed at the inauguration ceremony of President John F. Kennedy. Joe went on to attend the University of Georgia where he received his BBA in 1967 and his MBA in 1969. His dedication to the Dawgs was so steadfast, you could often find Joe watching decades-old UGA football games on any given afternoon. Upon graduation, Joe was commissioned in the US Army as an Infantry Officer.

Joe leaves his wife of 52 years, Nancy Byers; sons, Josh (Michelle Skurski) Byers and Clint (Brooke) Byers; and grandchildren, Violet, Mason, Ella, and Mary Elise to cherish his memories.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with Dr. Thomas Martin officiating. The family will receive family and friends prior to the service 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, Georgia.
