James Franklin Glover

James Franklin Glover, 90, went to be with his Lord on November 24, 2010. Born in Rives, TN, he spent the majority of his early years in the Obion County area. After graduating from high school in Union City, he took flying lessons and received his pilot certificate at the University of Tennessee at Martin, Prior to WWII, Jim served as Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church, Union City, TN. During the war, he served with the Embry-Riddle Co. as a flight instructor at the Army Air Force Contract Flying Schools at Everett Stewart Airport, Union City, TN and Dorr Field, Arcadia, FL. While in Union City, Jim married Mildred Marie Hurt, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to her death in 1993. After the war, they moved south to West Memphis, AR where Jim became a crop duster in east and central Arkansas. In 1948, he began his career as a pilot with Southern Airways, retiring 30 years later as Chief Pilot of Republic Airlines. During his lifetime, Jim was a retail merchant, builder / contractor, founder and head of the Holiday Inn transportation department (Hi-Air), and avid University of Memphis supporter. He was a charter member of Graceland Baptist Church in Whitehaven, a member of First Baptist Church, Horn Lake, MS, Bellevue Baptist Church of Memphis, and Germantown Baptist Church. Jim loved his Lord, and whether he was changing diapers in the nursery, leading a building or finance committee or serving as Deacon Chairman, he did it as unto the Lord. Jim is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Ann Fletcher Glover, daughters Gloria Glover Gates of Fisherville, TN, Melanie Glover Milburn of Helena, MT, Amy Fletcher Warren of Houston, TX, and son David Craig Clover of Lakeland, TN. He also leaves eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, November 27, at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Cordova. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. and the service will begin at 3 p.m. The family requests any memorials be sent to Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, 2095 Appling Rd, Cordova, TN 38016.
