Howell Alonzo Ray, Jr. (aka H.A. or Pawpaw) formerly of Hapeville, Georgia peacefully passed away Monday, February 11th, 2008 at the age of 75. Mr. Ray was born in Muscadine, Alabama on August 27th, 1932 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Howell Ray, Sr. He is preceded in death by his daughter Vicki L. Bahr who passed away September 15th, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Ray and his daughter, Judy Williams, wife of Mike Williams; also by his sisters Jean Dexter, Luci Gallichio, Anne Millians and brother Calvin Ray; grandson Jason Bahr, his wife Jessica and great-grandson Cashen; granddaughters Stephanie Williams and Malory Williams; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cats Wendy and Sassy. Mr. Ray served four years in the U.S. Army in the 101st “Screaming Eagles” Airborne Unit. He enjoyed a successful career beginning in 1959 at Southern Airways, where he began as a stock clerk. In 1994, he retired as Director of Shops for Northwest Airlines in Atlanta. He was known and loved for his sense of humor and the kindness and respect which he showed for those who knew him. 


Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at the C. J. Mowell & Son Chapel, Fayetteville with Pastor Doug Burrell officiating. Interment will follow at Camp Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
