Mr. Ward passed away on January 25, 2016 at NE Alabama Regional Medical Center. Mr. Ward was born in Graham, Ala. He graduated from Bowdon (GA) High School in 1942. He worked for a time driving a gas truck for Standard Oil in Randolph County. This is where he met his future wife, Stella, the daughter of one of his customers. Mr. Ward began his career in 1955 in accounting for Southern Airways in Atlanta. During the following 25 years, he worked through several mergers in the airline industry and eventually retired in 1980 from Northwest Airlines. He and Stella moved to Anniston and made it their home for 35 years. They became faithful members of McCoy United Methodist Church. He joined the Masons in April 1944 at the Heaton Lodge #354 in Graham. He became a Shriner at the Yaarab Shrine Temple in Atlanta in December 1958. He was devoted to these organizations, the JSU Gamecocks and the Alabama Crimson Tide. He enjoyed gardening and working in his flower beds. Mr. Ward is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Stella Ward; his parents, Henry C. Ward and Addie Lee Stephens Ward; and five brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Sheryl Hightower and her husband, David, of Anniston and Atlanta; a brother, Norman Ward and his wife, Windy, of Bowdon, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews who he loved very much. The funeral service for Mr. Nathan Ward, of Anniston will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs with the Reverend Steve McGinnis officiating. Burial will follow at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, 14985 County Road 65, Roanoke, Ala. The family will receive friends from noon until the service hour on Thursday at the funeral home.
