George Harrison Cook of Athens passed away Sunday. He was 74. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Athens. He was a U.S. Navy and Marines veteran. He was the former owner of Cooks Travel Agency in Athens and Huntsville for 30 years and was employed at Greenbrier Restaurant. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Ethel Deemer Cook; wife, Shirley Cook; brothers, James Cook, Earl Cook, and Otis Cook; and sisters, Margaret Williams and Mary Frances Edelbrock. He is survived by his son an daughter-in-law, Scott and Christie Cook of Elkmont; brother Billy Cook of Elkmont; sisters, Betty Burnett of Las Vegas, Judy Humphries of Clarksville, TN, and Nancy Mader; two grandchildren, Jackson Cook and Anna Grace Cook; several nieces and nephews, and special friend, Adelia Howell of Huntsville. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 Thursday from the Athens chapel of Spry Funeral Home. Steve Williams will conduct the service. Memorial may be made to your favorite charity.
