Obituary

David Lee Nash
June 3, 1943 - September 20, 2022

Mr. David Lee Nash of Newnan, GA passed away Tuesday, 20 September 2022, at 79 years old, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital, after a long-fought battle with COPD, congestive heart failure, and a Chiari spinal malformation. He was born 3 June 1943 in Atlanta, GA, at Emory Hospital, as the seventh of eight children, to the late Clifford C. and Jewell (Holt) Nash.

David, during his employment years, worked shortly for the City of East Point Line Crew, in the early 1960’s, then for the City of East Point Fire Department. In 1973 he started his career at Southern Airways, in Atlanta. In the summer of 1979 Southern merged with North Central Airlines to become Republic Airlines. Then in 1986, Republic was acquired by Northwest Orient Airlines and became Northwest Airlines. David held many positions during this career, such as Shipping & Receiving and a Stock Clerk at the Atlanta Maintenance Facility, located near the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. He was a dedicated employee and liked by many. In 1998, David had to retire early, due to a birth-defect found in his cervical spine, called a Chiari malformation. It started causing mobility and balance issues. After a lifetime of very bad headaches, the cause was finally discovered and explained. He went through several major surgeries to slow the progression of the malformation, but ultimately his mobility was affected. On a positive note, David was witty and loved to crack jokes. It was his way of dealing with all the medical issues through the years.

On 1 June 1963, David married Donna “Jill” Flowers (of College Park, GA) and the couple had two children and four grandchildren. During their life of 57 years together, David and Jill lived in East Point, College Park, Riverdale and finally Newnan, GA, to be close to their children. David had a love of old cars and the knowledge to tell the year of the vehicle, just by looking at it. He collected diecast models of vehicles in his later years. David was completely devoted to his four grandchildren and cherished time with them. David and Jill were faithful members of the Fayetteville Church of Christ, where David’s father, Cliff Nash assisted in establishing, in 1955.

David is preceded in death by his wife, D. Jill Nash; sisters, Meredith L. Nash, Doris J. Johnson, C. JoAnne Daugherty, C. Carleen Biles, and Sharon J. Burdette; brother, William C. “Bill” Nash; sister-in-law, Vivian E. Nash; brothers-in-law, Harry E. Johnson and Everett W. “Jimmy” Daugherty, Jr.; niece, Shay L. Burdette; and his parents.

David is survived by his son, Charles (Charity) Nash of Newnan, GA; daughter, Kelly (Ed) Hinely of Newnan, GA; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Hinely, Reagan Hinely, Peyton Nash and Maggie-Lyn Nash, all of Newnan, GA; brother, Wayne L. (BettyJo) Nash of Fayetteville, GA; brothers-in-law, R. Ronald Biles and Steven C. Burdette, both of Fayetteville, GA; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, 15 October 2022 at Fayetteville Church of Christ, 870 Redwine Road, Fayetteville, GA 30215, at 3:00PM. Visitation with the family will be 2:00PM – 3:00PM before the service. A private interment service will occur at a later date, at New Hope Cemetery, on New Hope Road, in Fayetteville, GA, beside David’s parents and sister.
