SHARPSBURG, Ga. – Mr. Charles M. Shumpert, 80, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2014. Charles was born December 31, 1933, in the Carolina community, the son of Mitchell and Nona Lindsey Shumpert. He was retired from SITA as an airline telecommunications senior systems analyst where he was employed for 23 years. Prior to SITA, he was employed by Southern Airways for 21 years. Charles served for the U.S. Army in Germany for three years. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Robert ""Shorty"" Shumpert of Tupelo; son, Michael; his wife of 55 years, Patricia Webb Shumpert; grandson, Jacob Metzger of Sharpsburg, Ga.; in-laws, Wilson and Jewell Webb; and brother-in-law, Jack Webb of Tupelo. He is survived by his children, Patrice (Benny) Gee of Hiram, Ga., Robert (Sandra) Shumpert of Newnan, Ga., and Teresa Shumpert of Sharpsburg, Ga.; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, five stepgreat-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter on the way, and three stepgrandsons and spouses; several nieces and nephews and cousins. He loved to travel and went to many places all around the world. His hobbies were gardening, fishing and he was one of the best cooks around. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Service will be at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 23, 2014, in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, Ga., with the Rev. Tim Hammett and Dr. Watson Mills officiating.
