Obituary
Billy Royce Mitchem, Sr. of Newnan, Georgia passed away early Saturday morning May 25 at the age of 95.
He grew up in LaGrange, Georgia before moving to the College Park/East Point area where he and his wife, Ann, started their family. He worked for Southern Airways for 25 years. He and his family then moved to Gay, Georgia where he operated his own antique store for over 20 years. Later on, he and Ann moved to Newnan, Georgia where they continued their antique business until their retirement.
Billy Sr., our father, was a great story teller and one of those folks who never met a stranger. His first question to everyone he met was, "Where you from?". He loved people and history, especially local history pertaining to people, families and the civil war. He loved telling stories, sharing family histories and learning about the people around him. He spent many happy days talking to customers at his son's antique store in Newnan, so much so that some folks would travel there just to spend time with him.
He is survived by Ann, his wife of 73 years, his three sons Billy Jr., Clay and Phillip; Sisters Ruth Lawrence, Linda Sue Johnson and brother Bobby Mitchem; 4 grand children and 3 great grand children.
A celebration of his Life will be held at his home on #1 Reese St., Newnan, Georgia on June 9 at 2 pm. We invite all family, friends and neighbors to come and join us in our own story tellings of his long and wonderful life.
