Dear Friends,
I am so very sorry to report this sad news, but our dear Flight Attendant friend, Grover Hammonds passed away last Wednesday in Atlanta. Many of you will remember Grover from our days of commuting to DTW. He had been ill with cancer for quite a while and it finally took him from us. He and I were in the same Flight Attendant Training Class at Southern Airways starting in April 1974. There were 24 girls and Grover was the only guy. .... Grover was only the 3rd male Flight Attendant hired by Southern and he was proud to be the first African-American one too! I am so, so sad to learn that we have lost this beautiful soul. I will always remember that twinkle in his eye--that cute sense of humor and that precious grin. I know that he had been ill for awhile and now he at peace and with God---sadly, another Flight Attendant Angel to watch over us... I know also, that we will all feel the same great loss. My heart goes out to his beloved Jo Ann, all of his friends and family. I don't think I have even known a sweeter, kinder person.
With deepest sympathy and friendship,
Irene (and Trip) Wingfield
